Important End of Summer Info

As summer comes to an end and you start to look ahead to 6th grade and middle school, I wanted to let our former 5th grade families know about RBE's Back to School Drive-Thru on September 1st and 2nd from 4:00-7:00. At this event former 5th graders can swing by to pick up their yearbooks from last year and the 5th grade T-shirts that the Missouri Credit made for the kids. I will be there working, and I would love to say hello to everyone and wish the kids well as they get ready for their next adventure.

I am really sad that COVID19 county restrictions for gatherings have made it hard to get the whole class together to say goodbye. Back in March (and even in May!) I had no idea that we would still be adjusting and cancelling events because of the virus. Even though we can't formally get together, I hope you and your kids will take a moment to watch the 5th Grade Video Slideshow that MCU helped to put together for 5th grade parents and students.

MCU 5th Grade Slideshow

I hope everyone enjoyed this summer and good luck in middle school!  Come back to RBE to say hello in the future!

Here is the schedule for the dress up days:

Monday- Crazy Sock Day
Tuesday- Pajama Day
Wednesday- NO SCHOOL
Thursday- Dress Like A Book Character Day
Friday- Color Day

If you would like to be a  "Mystery Reader" in our classroom, click the link below for info to sign up. If there aren't any times that work for you, send me an email and we will try our best to make it work!

Children's Literature Festival Field Trip - March 17th - Warrensburg, MO

Thanks to everyone who returned the permission form for our upcoming trip. If you haven't, please return asap.

Some notes about the day:
  • We leave shortly after the bell, so make sure your child is on time to school.
  • This trip involves a lot of walking outside on the University of Central Missouri Campus, so watch the weather and make sure your child dresses comfortably.
  • Students may bring devices for the bus, but they are responsible for them. Devices need to be put away in drawstring bags once we arrive at the campus.
  • Students may choose to purchase lunch on campus (at least $7) or bring a sack lunch.
  • If time allows, we will visit the festival book sale.  Optional: students may bring money to purchase a book.
  • The bus will arrive back at RBE around 3:45.  Please make sure you have arranged for your child to be picked up at that time.  Buses will be gone, and everyone will need a ride home.

5th Grade Info

I'm so happy that we are starting to get back into the routine of school with an almost full week.  We've learned a lot this week as we're continuing our African American Biography Research during ELA time, getting into Unit 5 Equivalent Fractions in math, and learning all about the phases of the moon in Science.

Also, a BIG thank you to all the parents who helped organize or donated items for our Valentine's Party on Monday!

Conferences and Book Fair

I look forward to meeting with everyone next week during parent teacher conferences. I'll be sharing some of your child's work and answering any questions you may have about next year and middle school.  Please let me know asap if you need to reschedule your child's conference. Since we will be talking next week, there won't be a success ready checklist in this week's Friday Folder.  Look for the 3rd Trimester checklist to begin next week.

The Book Fair will be open Monday-Friday next week!  See the schedule below for times.

Monday 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Tuesday 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Wednesday 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Thursday 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Friday 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM

Friends and Family Day- Monday, February 24th 10:10-11:00

We hope you are able to join us on Monday to visit your child's Special's Class to see what they've been learning in Media and Art.  Specials are from 10:10-11:00, but you should plan to arrive a few minutes early, so you'll have time to check in at the office first.

5th Grade Updates

BizTown Volunteer Form:

The gold letter in your child's Friday Folder is requesting volunteers for our upcoming trip to JA BizTown in St. Louis on January 22nd. To ensure a successful visit, we need adult volunteers. Parent volunteers will be in charge of helping students run the businesses at BizTown. (You most likely won't be at the same business as your child, but you will be able to eat lunch with them if you'd like!) If you are able to volunteer, please read the gold letter, fill out the bottom portion of the letter, and return to me no later than Wednesday, Dec. 11th. Please only sign up if you know for sure you'll be able to attend. There is a limited number of volunteers that we are able to bring. Just a heads up- In the past, we have had to have a lottery to determine our volunteers since we had so many parents volunteer. We are so lucky to have so many people willing to help! 😊

What is JA BizTown?

BizTown is a Junior Achievement program that encompasses important elements of community and economy, work readiness, financial literacy, and business management. At BizTown, each student will assume a job, produce and/or sell products, receive a paycheck, work on a business team, repay business loans, shop, and manage a personal bank account. Students will use critical thinking skills to learn about key economic concepts as they explore and enhance their understanding of free enterprise. To learn more about JA BizTown, check out this slideshow that I showed students earlier this week: JA BizTown Overview and Tour

December Calendar of Activities:

In your child's Friday Folder you will find our December Calendar of Activities and Information about our Secret Gift Exchange.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  We will need some supplies for some of our December fun.  If you able to sign up to bring items, I would really appreciate it!  See the sign up link below.
